The Toby Press was founded in 1999, with the purpose of publishing fine literary and commercial fiction. We are proud that we are still achieving that goal, on an ongoing basis. We have a number of areas in which we have a special interest:

Discovering new writing. We have been the first to publish new writing by authors including Crystal Wilkinson, Samantha Dunn, Joshua Barkan, Naveed Noori, Brian Howell, Krista McGruder, Michael Bornstein Oren, Beatrice Colin and other exceptional and award winning first time authors. We brought together the writings of PEN award winner John Auerbach, which had never been published previously in the original English.

Bringing Outstanding Writers into English. We have introduced a significant number of celebrated and admired authors whose works have never appeared before in English. These include Anna Enquist of the Netherlands, Yasmina Khadra of Algeria, Hartmut Lange and Katharina Hacker of Germany, Haim Sabato and Shlomo DuNour of Israel, Laurent Gaudé (winner of the Prix Goncourt) and Arlette Armel of France, and many others.

Sophisticated Crime. We're addicts! Our Toby Crime list features brilliant psychological thrillers from the writers of many countries, including II Magdalen (US), Haim Lapid (Israel), FG Ledesma (Spain), C Gross (Germany) and others.

New Editions from Well Loved Authors. Morris West, Amos Oz, Naomi Ragen are a few of the authors whose classic writings have been brought out in new editions from The Toby Press.

Quality Editions of Enduring Classics at Low Prices. Our Toby Classics line brings you beautifully bound hardcover editions of such loved authors as Dickens, Austen and Hawthorne, complete with academic introductions and chronologies, for under $10 - and the paperback for even less. No longer is there only a choice between prohibitively expensive or cheap and shoddy.
